Panoramic view of Allamuchy-Panther Valley in autumn season on October 22, 2013 as viewed from Panther
Valley Scenic Overlook on I-80 East Bound at Mile Post 19 and about 1 mile east of junction of I-80 and Route 517
in Allamuchy Township in western New Jersey.

This is once suggested by Lady Bird Johnson to be one of the best vistas in New Jersey, overlooking a
spectacular panorama west towards Jenny Jump mountain and the Delaware Water Gap. It is a gateway and
panoramic window to the Skylands of New Jersey! What a beautiful view! This is our beautiful NJ!

Thanks to the Interstate Highway System for creating such a beautiful Scenic Overlook which provides the visitor
an opportunity to 'Take it All in', thus getting a clearer perspective of a region's natural beauties.

While at the overlook, safely away from the hustle and bustle of the busy highway, a visitor can repose and begin
to look for all the smaller pictures in details within the vast panorama, whether it be a tiny farm amid its vast
surroundings or a large distant mountain range framing the distant horizon creating a beautiful border between the
landscape and the sky!

Map: Click here for interactive Google Map showing location of junction of I-80 and County Road 517. The Scenic
Overlook is about one mile east of this junction on I-80 east bound.

Highlands in New Jersey.  It is located at 2 Light House Rd, Highlands, New Jersey 07732, Phone: 732-872-

generations of mariners who relied on it as the primary navigational light for navigating the entrance to New
York Harbor.

From here, visitors can enjoy spectacular views of Sandy Hook Bay, the historical structures and topography
of Gateway National Recreation Area (Sandy Hook), Raritan Bay, Shrewsbury River, New York Skyline, the
Verrazano Narrows Bridge, the entrance to the New York Harbor, cruise ships leaving New York Harbor,
Long Island and the Atlantic Ocean. The fabulous view is 360 degrees. It is so beautiful!

Breathtaking panoramic view of Hudson River as viewed from the scenic Belvedere of Boscobel House and Gardens located at 1601 NY-9D,

Academy at West Point. Boscobel is also home to the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival.  In summer the celebrated Hudson Valley Shakespeare
Festival comes to town, gracing Boscobel with contemporary interpretations of the hallowed plays in a tent-theater.

A flag pole and its base on the Washington Rock.
From this Rock, General George Washington watched the movement of the British Forces during the
anxious months of May and June, 1777.

This park is best known for its scenic vista and historical significance to commemorate the historical
events of June 1777. The park is an elevated outcrop of rock which gave General Washington a strategic
view of the New Jersey plains below. The strategic location of Washington Rock made it a valuable
lookout point during the American Revolution for General George Washington in June of 1777 when the
British army under General William Howe was moving toward Westfield. From the vantage point of this
natural rock outcropping, General Washington had a thirty-mile panoramic view of the valley and was
able to instruct his troops to circle behind Howe’s troops and cut off their retreat.

During 1777 and again in 1778-1779, Revolutionary forces ensconced themselves in the Middlebrook
encampment in New Jersey's Watchung Mountains, which span Morris, Union, Essex and Passaic
counties. From their mountain stronghold, the patriots were able to monitor movement of British troops in
red coats between British-held Manhattan and the city of Philadelphia
There was a wedding being set up on the lawn with such majestic view when I was there. I had only about
30 minutes to tour the area and to take some photos before the wedding started. The summertime brings
yoga classes taught on the West Meadow overlooking the Hudson River, concerts, Shakespearean plays
and fun farmers' market in the parking lot. There are also exhibitions by Hudson River School painters.

It is said that on a clear day, you can even see the Bear Mountain Bridge shimmering silver in the distance.
This place is absolutely gorgeous.
