There are so many different ways that the nature can show us the amazing blue-green colors of world famous
beautiful lakes. Please enjoy the lovely but "different" blue-green colors in the following pictures of several
world famous beautiful lakes:
A corner of Lake Louise in Banff National Park in Canadian Rockies in Alberta, Canada. Wow! What an amazing
milky blue-green jade color. Lake Louise is world famous for the vivid turquoise glacier-fed lake ringed by high
peaks. By mid summer, milky glacier streams pour new rock flours into the lake. The greater density of
suspended rock flour particles changes the lake’s color from blue to milky blue-green. The glacier silt or rock
flour is what the light reflects off of in the lake and gives it the beautiful turquoise color.

Peyto Lake in Banff National Park in Canadian Rockies in Alberta, Canada. During the summer, significant
amounts of glacial rock flour flow into the lake, and these suspended rock particles give the lake a bright,
beautiful azure-blue colour. The lake is best seen from Peyto Lake Upper Viewpoint near Bow Summit.
From the lower parking lot, tourists need to hike on a steep uphill trail for about 1 Km to reach the Peyto Lake

A Note on the blue color of these glacier-fed lakes
When people hiked up to Beehive Mountain on the north side of Lake Louise and looked down on the Lake
Louise below, the color of Lake Louise viewed down from that high overlook on Beehive Mountain looks very
similar to that of Peyto Lake as shown on this YouTube video.
Remember that from the lower parking lot, tourists have to hike on a very steep uphill trail for 1 Km to reach
the Peyto Lake Upper Viewpoint to see the very blue and beautiful color of Peyto Lake.
But when we look at Lake Louise almost horizontally from the lake shore, the color of Lake Louise is milky
white-blue jade color as shown in first few pictures on this website.
In other words, the color of these glacier-fed lakes is strongly dependent on the angle of view. The horizontal
view from lake side and the vertical down view from a high overlook Vista Point show significantly different
Beautiful Moraine Lake in the valley of 10 peaks in Banff National Park in Canadian Rockies in Alberta
Province, Canada. The glacier fed lake gets its beautiful blue-green color from the refraction of light off the
fine particles of rock flour/powder carried by water from glacier and deposited in such lake.

Beautiful blue Shasta Lake with majestic snow capped Mount Shasta in northern California as viewed from
Shasta Dam Vista Point Overlook (on scenic Route 151, Shasta Dam Blvd) on September 23, 2019. Shasta
Dam Overlook is marked on Google Map. It is about 11 miles north of the City of Reeding, California. If you
enter "Shasta Dam Overlook" as the destination, the Google Map based GPS navigator APP on a smartphone
will guide your driving to this Vista Point on the scenic Route 151 in northern California. It is a roadside pull-out
paved parking area for the fantastic view. The horizontal concrete structure at the bottom of this picture is the
upper part of the massive Shasta Dam which the eighth tallest dam in the United States. The large Shasta
Lake is the impounding of the Sacramento River by Shasta Dam.

are about the size of typical ducks. Some of these fish are bigger than the ducks.

Deep blue color or brackish-blue color of gorgeous and tranquil view of South Harbour along White Point Road
and Cabot Trail at northeastern part of Cape Breton Highlands National Park in Nova Scotia, Canada. Many
lookouts for breathtaking vistas right on the highway around this beautiful national park located on the northern
part of Nova Scotia.
Properly speaking, South Harbour is a misnomer - the sole outlet of the “harbour” is a narrow channel through a
sandbar into the ocean, and is too small for commercial watercraft to traverse. The sandbar is narrow enough
that the salty ocean water seeps into the harbour, causing the harbour's water to be brackish. Therefore the
body of water is actually an estuary. The channel periodically plugs and unplugs, and shifts location up and
down the sandbar. The two main freshwater sources that feed into South Harbour are Effie's brook and
