The Green River Overlook in the Island In The Sky District at elevation of 6,100 feet provides the sweeping vista of the vast White Rim Plateau and the deep
canyons carved by the Green River and its tributaries.  Begin in the Wind River Range in Wyoming, the Green River is deep down in the canyon in this area
and is visible from this Overlook. The breathtaking panorama includes the vast plateau of White Rim desert,  the Soda Springs Basin, and the winding Green
River far below in the deep gorges. At 6,100 feet of elevation, you can see nearly 100 miles from the Overlooks on the Island In The Sky District.  The far end
is the remote Maze District of Canyonlands National Park.

The vast White Rim Plateau is a wide flat plateau and desert halfway in height between the Island in the Sky and the Green/Colorado rivers. The White Rim
Plateau is formed by a layer of white sandstone much more resistant to erosion than the strata above or below. The White Rim is made of ancient inland sea
sediments. This hard layer of white sediments form a sharply defined rim above the lower level canyons and gorges.

The Island In The Sky District is a broad and level mesa and is the highest section of the Canyonlands National Park in Utah, USA. It is at an average
elevation of 6,100 feet. The grand White Rim Plateau  is 1,200 feet below the Island In The Sky mesa. The Green River in this area is another 1,000 feet
below the White Rim Plateau and about 2,200 feet below the Island In The Sky District. The millions of years of "Stair Step Erosion" has divided the vast wild
landscape here vertically into the three descending worlds from (1) The Island In The Sky down to (2) White Rim Plateau and desert and further down to (3)
Green River and canyons.

Magnificent vistas from the Grand View Point Overlook (elevation 6,080 feet, or 1,853 meters) at the southern end of the Island In The Sky District in
Canyonlands National Park in Utah, USA. Grand View Point offers tremendous views to the east, south, and west. It is an awesome site. The gorgeous
near-endless views includes the vast White Rim Plateau, countless Colorado canyons, the spires, pinnacles and 505-feet totem poles of Monument Basin with
steep-sided walls, the distant La Sal mountains about 35-mile in the east, the distance Abajo Mountains 35-mile in the southeast near the Colorado border, the
100-mile-long White Rim unpaved back-country road,  and the Needles District 12 miles to the south. Laid out below is a complex network of canyons carved
by the converging Colorado River and Green River. The Colorado River is the powerful landscaper here, carving a thousand-foot trench into the earth. The next
layer up is the grand White Rim Plateau. This striking ornamentation runs along the top of the canyons, taking its coloration from salt deposited in the soil. A
thousand feet above the White Rim is the top of the mesa of The Island In The Sky District, where you can look out over it all.  The "3 fingers gorges" right in
front of the grand view is amazing. This is one of the natural wonders of the world and a paradise for adventurers, explorers, hikers, bikers, off-road lovers
(4X4 tough trucks lovers) and so on. The Colorado River and Green River cut so deep down into the canyons that they and their confluence are not visible from
the Grand View Point Overlook.
Stunning view from Buck Canyon Overlook in the Island In The Sky District in Canyonlands National Park in Utah, USA. It looks east over the Colorado River
Canyon and includes spectacular geology of the Buck Canyon below and the La Sal Mountains at a distance. Visitors are impressed by the intricate landscape
stretching out before them.  A visitor indicated that " I was speechless with admiration when I stood at Green River Overlook, Buck Canyon Overlook and
Grand View Point Overlook. Could have been the views from an airplane. Simply unbelievable!"
